Admissions Process

We are pleased that you are interested in joining Makuhari International School!

There are two different pathways for entry into MIS. One is for students wishing to enter at the beginning of the academic year in April, and one that is for students who wish to transfer into our school during the school year. Both have different timelines and slightly different processes. Before you begin the application process, be sure to check the admissions criteria to see if your child is eligible to join MIS 【Qualification Requirements】.

Admissions Schedule for April 2025

Attached is the Admissions Schedule for April 2025.
MIS will hold an Information Session and school tour on Saturday 21 September 2024.
The number of participants will be limited in order to accommodate as many families as possible.
Only ONE participant per family may attend the Information Session.
Information regarding the session will be posted on our website on Monday 02 September 2024.

Applications for the Information Session and Request for Enrollment Documents (Application for the Information Session is Now Closed)

Application for the Information Session is now closed.
If you are unable to attend the Information Session, you can download the MIS Application Documents from the ‘Apply’ → ‘Forms’ page after Saturday, September 21.

Makuhari International School will be holding an Information Session on Saturday, September 21, 2024 in the MIS Gymnasium from 10:00am to 12:00pm for families of children interested in applying for admission to our Kindergarten or Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year, beginning in April 2025.

Limit on number of participants: Only ONE participant per family (Please do not bring children)
What to bring: Exchange Form for the 2025 Application Packet
Venue: Makuhari International School Gymnasium
Parking: NO parking in the school parking lot is available. Please use public parking near the school if you come by car.
Application Deadline: Wednesday, September 11, 2024

Please note that a reservation is required to attend the Information Session. Please complete the online questionnaire at the link below.
Those who cannot attend the Information Session but are considering applying also need to complete the online questionnaire. The deadline is Wednesday, September 11, 2024.


After you complete the Information Session application, please complete, print (A4 size), and bring the ‘Exchange Form for the 2025 Application Packet’ to the Information Session. We will exchange this form for the ‘2025 Application Packet’.

School Tours

School tours are typically scheduled once per month for parents of prospective students who are not applying for April admission. We ask that families interested in an April admission attend the Information Day session and school tour in September. If you are interested in a school tour, please email Admissions Officer Ms Takeshita at h.takeshita@mis.ed.jp .

General Information for Admissions

For April, please follow the schedule described here: 【Enrollment for April

For times other than April, please go to the ‘Forms’ page under ‘Apply’ to download and complete an application form. Please return this to the school, together with an application fee form (Form A), any records, references or recommendation letters, and/or test results from the current or previous schools attended. The application should also include a copy of the child’s passport picture page, Parents Information Form, and a copy of the family’s certificate of residence. For full details, please request an 【Admissions Booklet】from the school.

If we feel a child meets the criteria for joining Makuhari International School, a subsequent screening test will be organized with the class teacher. For Kindergarten 1 or 2 children we will arrange an informal meeting with the kindergarten staff rather than a test. Where a child is accepted for testing/interviewing, a fee of ¥20,000 is paid to the school.

In certain situations, after a test, a follow-up interview might be arranged with the Learning Support of English Support Coordinator.

In all cases, a child will be placed in the relevant Grade (dependent on their chronological age). An offer of a place (or not) will be made in writing. Any decision made by the Head of School is final. If there are no spaces at the time of application, a child may be invited to join a waiting list at the school.
